Persina Nature Park
Persina Nature Park is a major natural landmark in the region, the only one in the Bulgarian Danube River Basin. Located on an area of 21,762.2 hectares along the entire length of the Svishtov-Belen lowland. It covers the Bulgarian islands in this part of the river. Persina, the largest Danube island, gives the park its name. There are about 1100 animal species, and the greatest wealth are birds – about 200 species. 475 species of higher plants are described. The park has separate routes with recreation areas, as well as shelters for bird watching. The directorate of Persina Nature Park is in Belene.
